To evaluate the prognostic benefit of the UMIPIC care program in patients with heart failure (HF) and anemia.

Data from 3,152 patients with HF and anemia from the RICA registry were analyzed. They were divided into two groups and selected by matched match: one receiving UMIPIC follow-up (UMIPIC group, N: 621) and the other receiving conventional care (non-UMIPIC group, N: 524). Admissions and mortality were assessed during 12 months of follow-up.

The UMIPIC group had a lower rate of admissions for HF (19.3% vs. 29.8%; p < 0.001) and a reduction in overall mortality (24.8% vs. 36.6%; p < 0.001). Patients in the UMIPIC group with associated iron deficiency (ID) also had a lower rate of admissions for HF (19.1% vs. 32.5%; p < 0.001).

Implementation of the UMIPIC program in patients with HF and anemia reduces admissions and overall mortality at one year. Additional studies are needed to explore the impact of specific ID treatment within these care program.

Evaluar el beneficio pronóstico del programa asistencial UMIPIC en pacientes con insuficiencia cardiaca (IC) y anemia.

Se analizaron los datos de 3152 pacientes con IC y anemia procedentes del registro RICA. Se dividieron en 2 grupos y se seleccionaron por emparejamiento, uno en seguimiento UMIPIC (grupo UMIPIC, N: 621) y otro atendido de forma convencional (grupo no UMIPIC, N:524). Se evaluaron los ingresos y la mortalidad durante 12 meses de seguimiento.

El grupo UMIPIC tuvo una menor tasa de ingresos por IC (19,3 % vs. 29,8 %; p < 0,001), y una reducción de la mortalidad global (24,8 % vs. 36,6 %; p < 0,001). Aquellos pacientes del grupo UMIPIC con déficit de hierro asociado (DH), también presentaron una menor tasa de ingresos por IC (19.1% vs. 32.5%; p < 0.001).

La implementación del programa UMIPIC a pacientes con IC y anemia, reduce los ingresos y la mortalidad total al año. Son precisos estudios adicionales que exploren el impacto del tratamiento específico del DH dentro de estos programas asistenciales.
